Dr. Sarah Shelton

Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Shelton is a native of Paducah, Kentucky. She earned a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, a Masters of Public Health degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, and an APA-accredited Doctoral degree in Clinical Health Psychology from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. She then completed a one year APA-accredited residency at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Akron, Ohio where she was appointed Chief Intern. After leaving Ohio, Dr. Shelton completed two additional years of training as a Postdoctoral Fellow of Medical Psychology and a Postdoctoral Fellow of Behavioral Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. She then obtained advanced graduate training in Forensic Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Shelton is licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. She has also held licenses in the states of Georgia and South Carolina and practiced in all three states before returning to Kentucky on a full time basis.
Dr. Shelton holds multiple professorships at several universities. She has served as Clinical Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry & Health Behavior and the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Georgia and was the Director of Pediatric Psychology for multiple clinics at the Medical College of Georgia’s Children’s Medical Center, where she trained and supervised medical students, psychology and psychiatry residents, and postdoctoral fellows. She is also Faculty at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where she was named Faculty of the Year. She has authored multiple journal articles and book chapters and has presented her research at national and international levels.
She is Co-Founder of Psychological Wellness Group in Paducah, Kentucky where she provides evaluation, assessment, and treatment for patients of all ages. Dr. Shelton diagnoses and treats the full spectrum of mental health conditions and has additional expertise in health psychology and forensic psychology. She possesses over a decade of supervised and independent practice in the field of clinical psychology.
Health Psychology
Dr. Shelton holds a special designation as a Health Service Provider by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology and by the Kentucky State Board of Examiners in Psychology. Dr. Shelton has also earned the credential of Multiple Sclerosis Certified Specialist (MSCS) for her expertise in evaluating and treating the psychological aspects of MS and her contributions to the field of MS-Psychology research.
Forensic Psychology
Dr. Shelton holds the designation of Qualified Mental Health Provider (QMHP) in Kentucky and is recognized as a Nationally Certified Custody Evaluator (NCCE) and Parenting Coordinator (NCPC) by the Professional Academy of Custody Experts. Dr. Shelton frequently serves as an Expert Witness in juvenile, civil, criminal, and family court cases.
